We're starting work on our posters for science fair this week in class! Make sure you've got all your pieces (purpose, hypothesis, etc), photos, and anything to add flair to your poster! Also make sure the font for the board pieces is big enough!
Written Reports - Ms. Trotter and I have discussed the due date for the written report and we feel it's best if we push back the due date a few days. They are due Monday 1/11.
- Everyone should be purchasing their poster boards this week and begin getting materials to make your boards look stunning and beautiful!
- You do not need to bring the boards to school until next month - Nothing new needs to be turned in this week, but if you owe me any work, then make sure it's in THIS WEEK!!! Math Project
- This is due on your child's math midterm day. - For the family vacation, it will be for at least 3 people. Research prices for flights, hotels, rental cars, tours, excursions, budget for food, etc. - Document costs - Record all info in spreadsheet style citing exactly what the item is and how much it costs - Scroll down for the guidelines posted last week. Science Fair - Due this week are the results for your experiments. This should include a chart/table/graph and your conclusion. - The conclusion needs to be typed, double-spaced, and about half a page long. Were the results of your experiment the same as you predicted in your hypothesis? Why do you think the results were the way they were? Rehash what the experiment was, what your hypothesis was, and explain the results. - This is due by Thursday, not Friday because middle school is on a field trip on Friday. Congratulations! You have been given $1,000,000. As a part of this inheritance, you have been given guidelines to follow for how to spend it. Make sure the follow the guidelines to the letter so you don't hurt Grandma Irene's feelings.
YOU MUST: 1. Put at least $75,000 aside for college education. Research the cost of the education for ONE year at your favorite university and then calculate it against how many years it will take you to achieve your degree. Add in 10%to cover inflation, books and other expenses related to education. 2. Purchase a home that is NO MORE than $500,000. Research various homes in locations that you would like to live. Find the home that you feel is PERFECT for you and print out one page with the specs from the home. 3. Take a family vacation. Use a travel agency to determine expenses for the total cost including: hotel, airfare, meals, transportation, spending money, etc. 4. Purchase a vehicle. Using dealership sites, find a car or vehicle that is to your liking and print out the one page with the specs for the car from the dealership. 5. Make one charitable donation. Remember that friends, family, and pets do not qualify as a charity. Find a charity that means something to you and give them funds based on a project they are working on. You may NOT spend more than $1,000,000 but you want to spend as much of it as possible. This project is developed to help you plan for your future and develop the math skills that you have acquired and put them in a real-life situation by spending money within a budget. As part of this project you WILL NOT be required to pay taxes, closing costs or other fees. You may not purchase 2 of the same item, and you may not borrow more money. 6th Grade Math
